Mud flaps are actually a design with nothing special.
There are already many ready-made products, and the patterns are simple.
Taking a serious step into the bicycle category, what we wanted to introduce was something that was not in the world
with carefully selected materials, functions appropriate to the use, and our taste.

The options other than design are very simple.
'Is it a single layer or a double layer?'
'If it is made in two layers, what material will you use for the lining?'
This has impact on workability and production cost.
And as usual,
we decided to choose the cumbersome but expensive lining rather than the outer fabric, making it with our hands and making it in two layers.
Because it was judged to be more functionally suitable.

Lining with function,
The lining of this mud flap is made of Zermatt leather from DEGERMANN, a French tannery that is also famous as a supplier to French luxury brand H.
Zermatt is a leather made by waterproofing the surface of calf skin. It is used in very small amounts for the lining of watch straps that sweat a lot due to the soft and smooth surface texture unique to calf leather and the functionality of the waterproof surface. This is the leather used.
The back of most watch straps in Company H's watch lineup are made of Zermatt.
ZERMATT is leather that is more than 50% more expensive than BUTTERO, the outer material, but it has the characteristics that best suit the role of mud flaps.
It is a mudguard flap on the rear wheel side, which is much smaller in sizethan front mud flap, but rather more concerned with the choice of various production methods.
The point of concern was how much of the existing rubber mudguard flap, which is a curved shape, should be implemented with leather.
It is certainly possible to realize the shape by using techniques such as molding, but it has inherent limitations in workability, and to use a metal core to maintain the shape, it is constantly exposed to moisture, so size, functional differentiation, utilization and From the producer's point of view, it was decided that it was not suitable.
While making it in various shapes, I came up with the most suitable structure possible only with leather.
The compromise was completed with a design with appropriate thickness and flexibility while preserving the functional characteristics of not touching the wheel or bending in the opposite direction only with the structure.
The back is also made from the same waterproof Zermatt leather as the front mud flap.
* The rear mudguard requires pre-work to completely remove the mudguard part of the existing Brompton. (It is more difficult than the front mud flaps.)
* Separate bolts and nuts are required to mount the mudguard. (Screws (1set) in the photo are provided.)

This is Buttero, a representative article produced by Walpier, Tannery, which has been the third generation family business and produces the finest leather in Italy.
The leather is vegetable-processed using the finest French hides. It has a very smooth surface and at the same time has a rich oil content, which makes it the best quality leather that boasts a moist touch despite being vegetable. Despite its smooth surface, it has a rich and deep color that is clearly distinguished from other vegetable leathers with the unique touch of leather, rather than an artificial feel, and the unique color expression of Buttero.
